Faith, Freedom, and the Pursuit of Life Enrichment

Christian Home for the Aged, Inc., doing business as Cornerstone Village, is a non-profit ministry of the Christian Churches and Churches of Christ in East Tennessee. We have served East Tennessee since 1965 and are still the only continuing care retirement community in Johnson City. We are a multi-faceted organization on two campuses, providing independent living with available enhanced in-home assistance, assisted living, including a memory unit, skilled rehabilitation, skilled nursing, enhanced respiratory care, and a variety of amenities and support services for people 62 and older.
As a faith-based, non-profit ministry, we are dedicated to the service of God and the care of His people by providing a broad continuum of quality residential alternatives and services designed to enhance the independence and dignity of its residents through spiritual, social, recreational and physical programs.
At the spiritual center of our community lies the Village Chapel. Our founding churches often say, “We aren’t the only Christians, just Christians only.” Therefore many times each week, a blend of people from several denominational backgrounds worship in unity of spirit, bound together by their love for Christ. On Sundays, of course, many residents still worship at their home churches in the area, including First Christian Church, which as our primary founding congregation, is right next door. Services at the Chapel though, and many others throughout our nursing and assisted living facilities, are a hallmark of our celebration of the Lord’s Day.
We are the first and only Life Plan community in the Tri-Cities, and a not-for-profit organization that maintains its commitment to its vision by reinvesting all of its revenue back into our community.
To meet the needs of this generation, senior living communities have transformed from care providers into vibrant Life Plan Communities that offer a range of residential options and new opportunities for creative, educational and personal exploration.

Yes. Consumer research showed that many local residents thought of us as “the nursing home on the hill.” Nothing could be further from the truth. We desired a name that would better represent our active and vibrant Life Plan Community — a senior living destination that embraces its East Tennessee roots and cornerstones: kind, welcoming and genuine people of all faiths.
For more than 50 years, we’ve been referred to as “The Village,” a place where people come together, share, enjoy, and live harmoniously. The word “Cornerstone” particularly resonated with our Board of Trustees because in Biblical times a cornerstone was used as the foundation upon which a building was constructed. We certainly want our Village to be the cornerstone of our residents’ lives.
No. Our mission continues to be: To reflect Christ’s love as the premier regional provider of quality senior living. Combine that with our steadfast vision to fulfill and please our residents and you realize that nothing has changed except our name.
Yes. We offer Independent Living Plus for those who require the services of a personal care concierge and Assisted Living neighborhoods on our North and South campuses. Cornerstone Village North also offers rehabilitation services and skilled and long-term care. Cornerstone Village South offers memory support services, which are available to all residents.
We offer a great many faith and fellowship opportunities. Those opportunities are robust and continuously expanding. In fact, we’ve recently added a mini-concert on the last Friday of each month featuring the older hymns our residents love.
